Romans 10:13-17
13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
You can not have faith in God unless you know who He is. You don't know who He is unless you hear about Him. You can't hear about Him unless you have a teacher. We all must be taught the word of God to be able to pass on to others the good news that we have come to know. We can't serve God anyway that we want to because it makes us feel good or it is convenient to us. This is why I must come to understand His word. It is through His word that I come to know Him and to know how He wants me to serve Him. Any way other than His way means nothing and leads us to destruction!
Proverbs 14:12
12There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
We will break down several of the big book philosophies and show you through some basic bible studies what they really mean. We are going to talk about some of the slogans and popular teachings that have been around since the inception of Alcoholics Anonymous as well as some of the slogans that are taken out of context in meetings today. We hope that you continue to check back often as we will continue to add to these studies as we are able to. Our goal at recovered alcoholics.net is to pass on to you some simple knowledge that was given us by God through the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have been taught and have recovered and our desire is to pass that on to those who care to have it!
Although the bible can be read in various ways it is in the book of Isaiah that the Lord shows us how to study His word.:
Isaiah 28:9-10
9Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
A precept is nothing more than a topic. One topic or subject at a time building or leading from one to another. Each topic searched out line upon line or scripture read straight through the verses, here a little and there a little or going from book to book to piece together the entire facts about a particular subject.
When we come into the word of God we are like babies in life. If we are to grow spiritually we must come to understand Gods word so that we may nourish ourselves.
1 Peter 2:1-3
1Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
The word of God must be approached as we do the 12 steps, without prejudice. We do this with an open mind without preconceived ideas or conclusions of things we may have heard or been told. God gave us His word so that we will have a way to know His will for us and a sure way to know how He would have us conduct ourselves.: 2 Timothy 3:16-17
16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
The Lord also told us to prove what we are hearing, checking everything.:
1 Thessalonians 5:20-22
20Despise not prophesyings. 21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
IN THESE STUDIES WE WILL PROVE ALL THINGS! HOLDING FAST AND ABSTAINING WILL BE UP TO YOU!
